Avon and Somerset police custody sergeant accused of using excessive force against detainee

A Patchway custody sergeant is accused of failing to exercise self-control and using excessive, unreasonable and disproportionate force against a detainee.

Sergeant Martin Fox will face a misconduct hearing at the Avon and Somerset Police HQ in Portishead on April 1 and 2.

The alleged incident took place at Patchway police station on August 29 last year.

Bristol nurse falsified dozens of medical records putting patients at 'risk of harm'

The hearing notice says: “PS Fox used a degree of force on a detainee which is alleged was excessive in all the circumstances on the grounds that it was neither necessary, reasonable nor proportionate to the conduct of the detainee.”

It says that PS Fox is accused of discrediting the force and undermining confidence in the police with his alleged actions, as the public “would consider that he had failed to exercise self-control”.

He is accused of gross misconduct.

The hearing will be held in public.
