Avison Young is expanding its land and development team in Scotland with the appointment of a new associate director.

Deborah Bruce joins the property advisory firm from The City of Edinburgh Council, where she gained development, valuation and transactional experience in and around the capital.

She has a particular focus on residential and mixed-use developments, viability appraisals and consultancy - and will work closely with Avison Young’s agency and planning teams in Scotland.

Tom Marshall, land and development principal and managing director for Avison Young, said: “Deborah has a wealth of experience in both the private and public sectors of the commercial real estate market and we’re excited that she is joining the Avison Young team.

“Land and development management is a vital part of the Avison Young offering and Deborah’s knowledge in this field will be extremely important for the business in Scotland.”

Stuart Agnew, managing director based in Edinburgh, said: “As we emerge from the pandemic our clients from both the public and private sectors are seeking specialist sectorial advice to ensure in building back better we create innovative and desirable new neighbourhoods and places for people to work, live and enjoy their free time.

“Deborah will be able to utilise our existing specialist teams to ensure that land and obsolete buildings are re-purposed and re-generated to create real social and economic value utilising her in depth knowledge of the city and the opportunities and constraints within it.”

He added: “Deborah is also joining us at a very exciting time at Avison Young with increasing demand for our services in the mixed-use development arena due to our ability to provide leading edge asset life cycle consultancy and agency advice.

“We are witnessing a bit of a changing of the guard in this respect and we are very much looking forward to Deborah contributing to this growth area of the business for us.”

Bruce commented: “I am looking forward to helping our clients transform their assets whether land or buildings in the most sustainable and economically beneficial way creating real value for them in the process.”
