Avicii‘s family have revealed plans to release a posthumous album by the Swedish DJ, a year after his death.
At the time of Avicii’s death on 20 April 2018, the musician – real name Tim Bergling – had almost completed a new album, according to a statement released by his family on Friday.
“He left behind a collection of nearly finished songs, along with notes, email conversations and text messages about the music,” Avicii’s relatives said.
“The songwriters that Tim was collaborating with on this album have continued the process to get as close to his vision as possible.”
The DJ’s family explained their decision not to keep his music “locked away”, but instead to “share it with his fans all around the world”.
Avicii’s posthumous album, TIM, will thus be released on 6 June.
A first single, titled “SOS”, is scheduled to come out on 10 April.
The net proceeds from the album sales will benefit the non-profit Tim Bergling Foundation, launched by Avicii’s family in his memory to serve several causes, including mental illness awareness and suicide prevention.
