Average Irish salary now over €38,800 per year as 7% increase in wages recorded

Pay is on the rise in Ireland according to new job market data released on Thursday.

There was a 7% increase in wages, bringing the average salary to €38,893 per year.

But it wasn’t all good news as the figures from job site CV-Library showed that while salaries rose in Cork, Limerick and Galway, they dropped in Dublin by a massive 12.5%.

It also showed there were 5.6% more jobs on offer in Ireland last month, with 11.7% more in Dublin and 3.3% more in Galway.

Cork actually saw a 18.3% drop in vacancies, while Limerick saw no change month-on-month.

Lee Biggins, founder and CEO of CV-Library, said: “Given the busy holiday season, August is a notoriously tricky time to hire, so it’s clear that employers are feeling the pressure to pull out all the stops when it comes to pay and attempting to attract the best talent, to their roles.

“And this could well be paying off.

"Official data shows that a record 2.3 million people were employed in the Irish economy in the second quarter of 2019, though we should be wary of the fact that a no-deal Brexit could impact this dramatically.”
