'Avengers: Infinity War' becomes just the fourth movie to top $2 billion at the global box office

With a snap, "Avengers: Infinity War" made history.

The Marvel Studios blockbuster has officially passed the $2 billion mark at the worldwide box office, Disney announced Tuesday, in just its 48th day in theaters.

"Infinity War" joins just three other movies to hit that mark: "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" (2015), "Avatar" (2009) and "Titanic" (1997). The flick is also Marvel's highest release ever, outpacing "Avengers," "Age of Ultron" and "Black Panther."

The newest superhero movie, starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chadwick Boseman, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Zoe Saldana and others, has been breaking box office records seemingly since its premiere, scoring a $640 million global opening and reaching $1 billion in just 11 days.

"Infinity War" fell to fifth place internationally between Friday and Sunday, dropping behind the newly released "Ocean's 8," which won the weekend with $41.5 million.

The next in the series, "Avengers 4," opens May 3, 2019.
