Avengers Endgame: Writers reveal why [Spoiler] got a "good death"

Warning: spoilers for Avengers Endgame.

Some huge events went down in Avengers: Endgame, including some major character deaths.

The film saw the Avengers unite following the events of Avengers: Infinity War to try and defeat Thanos whilst also undoing his dreadful actions.

Now one of the film's directors have revealed to The Hollywood Reporter how star Robert Downey Jr. felt in regards to Iron Man's arc and eventual demise.

Anthony Russo revealed: "The Tony Stark arc is the longest and perhaps fullest in the MCU. Once we decided we wanted this kind of ending for the character, we certainly wanted to make sure Robert was comfortable with it, just because of his enormous contribution to the MCU.

"We did pitch it out. We went over to meet with him and we pitched it out to him.

"I think Downey may have had mixed emotions about thinking about [where Tony Stark ends up in Endgame], but I think at the end of the day, he totally accepted it."

One of the film's screenwriters, Christopher Markus, also revealed to The New York Times that this had to be the way Tony's arc ended.

"I don’t think there were any mandates. If we had a good reason to not do it, certainly people would have entertained it."

He added: "Because we had the opportunity to give him the perfect retirement life, within the movie. That’s the life he’s been striving for.

"Are he and Pepper going to get together? Yes. They got married, they had a kid, it was great. It’s a good death. It doesn’t feel like a tragedy. It feels like a heroic, finished life."

Co-writer Stephen McFeely concluded:"Everyone knew this was going to be the end of Tony Stark."

Oh god, the tears are going to start again.

Avengers Endgame is in cinemas now.
