Avengers: Endgame writers reveal they cut a disturbing Captain America scene because it was too horrifying

An original idea for Avengers: Endgame was scrapped because it would have been too horrifying for audiences.

The film’s writers, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, revealed that an earlier draft of the Marvel blockbuster saw Thanos (Josh Brolin) travelling back in time to the events of Avengers Assemble in an attempt to kill every character.

He would have succeeded in ending the life of Captain America (Chris Evans) and the shocking moment would have seen him drop his decapitated head at the feet of the present version of Steve Rogers.

They divulged the detail at Comic-Con ahead of Marvel’s huge panel, which is expected to see the announcement of every film the studio will release over the next 10 years.

The pair were joined by Endgame directors Anthony and Joe Russo who revealed more scrapped ideas.

They stated they were originally set to bring Jaime Alexander’s Thor: The Dark World character, Sif, back, but opted for Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster whose one big scene was cut for time.

You can find a ranking of every Avengers character – from worst to best – here and what to expect in Black Panther 2 – including the return of a deceased character – here.
