Avengers Endgame: Why Captain Marvel has a new look for new film

Earth's Mightiest Heroes are about to get the mightiest addition to their roster yet.

In Avengers: Endgame, Captain Marvel  (Brie Larson) will join with the founding members of the superhero team to take on the villainous Thanos after the events of Avengers: Infinity War.

However, it is noticeable in the latest trailers and clips that Carol Danvers is rocking a bit more of a polished look.

With a sleek tank top, make-up and straighter hair that seems much different to the no make-up, wavy-haired heroine of her spin-off film, you'd be justified to wonder why the change has come about.

At CinemaCon, directors of Endgame, the Russo Brothers, revealed the real reason why Carol looks so different - Larson filmed her character's solo movie after Endgame.

"She [filmed Avengers: Endgame] before she filmed Captain Marvel," said Joe Russo, "and I think she was experimenting with what the character was. And those were the choices that she and her hair and makeup team had made.

"And I think as she started to gain a deeper understanding of the character, especially as she approached her own movie. She started to make different choices and as an artist she should be afforded that right to make whatever choice that she wants to make."

Brie Larson isn't the first to have control over her character's appearance either.

"We give all the actors ownership over there," Joe Russo said.

Avengers: Endgame is "completion" of Captain America's story, says Chris Evans

Russo revealed that the ever-evolving hair-do of Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow is also down to the actress.

"Every hairstyle that Scarlet Johansson has had and every movie that we've done has come from Scarlet Johansson," he said.

Well there we go then!

Avengers: Endgame is released in UK cinemas on April 25, 2019.
