Avengers Endgame: Paul Rudd says not using hilarious Ant-Man storyline was a 'missed opportunity'

Paul Rudd has joked that not using a bizarre fan theory to determine the fate of Ant-Man and Thanos in Avengers: Endgame was a “missed opportunity”.

The actor discussed the topic during a recent Hot Ones interview, a format that sees celebrities answering questions while food coated in increasingly spicy sauce.

He was asked about a fan theory that became particularly popular in the lead-up to Avengers: Endgame‘s release in April 2019.

Ant-Man, who is portrayed by Rudd in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has the power to shrink to sub-microscopic size and to expand to giant proportions.

Fans thus started floating the theory that the superhero could, technically, shrink down and crawl up Thanos’s bottom before becoming a giant – thus defeating the genocidal villain.

“What do you make of the ‘Ant-Man kills Thanos by crawling up his butt’ meme?” asked interviewer Sean Evans.

Rudd let out a deep sign before responding: “I consider it a lost opportunity.”

The actor’s jokingly serious tone was met with laughs from Evans.

Rudd was appearing on the web series to promote his new Netflix series Living With Yourself. You can read our review here.
