Avengers Endgame end credit scene, explained

WARNING: This post contains huge, massive, potentially life ruining spoilers for Avengers Endgame. For the love of Thanos, don’t keep scrolling if you haven’t already seen the movie. If you think that it might not be a big a deal, trust us, it is a huge forking deal.

Still with us? Ok.

Final warning, guys. We’re not responsible if you keep reading.

First of all, congratulations to all of us for surviving the harrowing three hour spectacle that is Avengers: Endgame. The movie not only wraps up the Infinity Saga but mostly ties up the storylines of the core group of six Avengers.

As with all Marvel films, there is a small stinger at the end of the final credits, and it’s not a visual scene, but a sound. If you listen closely, there’s the ping, ping, ping of iron being pounded out on an anvil.

So, what does that mean? According to Entertainment Weekly, It’s a call back to the first Iron Man film, where viewers first saw Tony Stark, trapped in a cave in Afghanistan, pounding out the metal for what would become his first Iron Man suit. The noise is a nod to the start of not just his storyline, but to the movie that birthed the entire MCU.

Marvel usually teases what’s next for them as a franchise in terms of films, but this time around, the stinger doesn’t look towards the future, only asks us to remember the past.
