Avengers Endgame easter egg: Meaning behind "I love you 3000"

Warning: Spoilers for Avengers Endgame.

It's one of the most adorable parts of Avengers: Endgame and also one of the most bittersweet.

Following the five year time jump after the Decimation of half of the universe's population by the evil Thanos, Iron Man aka Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) settled down to marry Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) and had a child: Morgan Stark (Alexandra Rachael Rabe).

We see Tony be a loving father to his young daughter and they have a recurring phrase to each other: "I love you 3000."

It's a cute phrase that is used to jerk the tears later in the film after Tony's death and he says it in a pre-recorded message for his beloved Morgan.

However, a fan has spotted a very interesting little easter egg behind "I love you 3000".

The fan Ash on Twitter noted that the total run time of all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films in the first three Phases - including the upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home - adds up to 3000 minutes.

We do have to assume that the upcoming Spidey film is 2 hours 9 minutes, however, but that sounds about right for a solo hero movie.

Additionally, screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely revealed to Business Insider that the line was inspired by Robert Downey Jr.'s own children, with the original line being "I love you tons", but was changed after discussing with the actor.

Well, this just got even cuter.

Avengers: Endgame is in cinemas now.
