'Avengers: Endgame' directors adapting Magic: The Gathering for Netflix

Fresh off "Avengers: Endgame," the Russo Brothers are taking on a card game.

Brothers Anthony and Joe Russo will adapt Magic: The Gathering into an animated series for Netflix, the streaming service announced Monday.

The series, in collaboration with Wizards of The Coast and Hasbro's Allspark Animation, will "expand on the stories of the Planeswalkers, which are Magic's unique magic-wielding heroes and villains, as they contend with stakes larger than any one world can hold."

"We have been huge fans and players of Magic: The Gathering for as long as it has been around, so being able to help bring these stories to life through animation is a true passion project for us," the directors said in a statement.

The tabletop card game, which was created by Richard Garfield, was released in 1993 and has since expanded into a digital game, an esports league, a comic book series and a best-selling novel.

Magic: The Gathering will join a growing animated slate at Netflix, including "BoJack Horseman," "Big Mouth," "Disenchantment" and other animes like "Devilman Crybaby" and "Ultraman."

"Magic is a beloved global franchise with a massively engaged fan base that has only continued to grow over the last 25 years," John Derderian, head of Anime programming for Netflix, said in a statement. "There's no one better suited to bring this story to audiences around the world than Joe and Anthony Russo, whose talent for genre storytelling is unmatched, as demonstrated by their central role in creating some of the biggest box office hits of all time."

Along with "Endgame," the Russo Brothers have also directed " The Winter Soldier," "Civil War," "Infinity War" and combined for dozens of episodes of "Community" and "Happy Endings."
