Avengers characters Falcon and Winter Soldier uniting for Marvel TV show

Two characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe are uniting for a potential new TV series, it's been confirmed.

The first of Disney's planned project dedicated to characters from its Avengers franchise will reportedly focus on Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

According to Variety, the characters - played by Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan respectively - will jump to the small screen for a limited series that's currently being written by Malcolm Spellman, who co-executive produced the TV series Empire.

Both characters made their debut in Captain America films and were last seen in the blockbuster, Avengers: Infinity War

Marvel and Disney have declined to comment. It was previously reported that the studios were in the process of greenlighting numerous high-budgeted shows focused on its superhero characters yet to receive standalone films. Other characters expected to be given the spotlight include Tom Hiddleston's Loki and Scarlet Witch, played by Elizabeth Olsen.

It's understood that the shows will drop on Disney's streaming service which is set to launch in 2019 with Jon Favreau's forthcoming Star Wars project and a reboot of classic Lady and the Tramp.

The news comes after Netflix recently cancelled its Marvel TV shows Iron Fist and Luke Cage after just two seasons. Unlike those, however, these standalone shows will be produced directly by Marvel president Kevin Feige.
