Avengers: Age of Ultron is predicted to make a record-breaking amount of money when it opens, according to box office analysts.

This morning saw the official tracking come out for the film which gives an idea of how the film is expected to land when it finally gets released. The film, which kicks off the summer season early, is currently ahead of The Avengers at the same pre-release stage.

The Avengers assembled with $207.4m in May 2012 and this still remains the biggest box office opening weekend of all time, a figure that its sequel could now beat. Experts are predicting at least a $200m bow but the improved awareness could easily push this higher.

Advance tickets started selling last month and are “significantly outselling” the first film, according to an insider. The Avengers ended up grossing $623m in the US and $1.5bn worldwide.

Since the success of The Avengers, the ensuing Marvel sequels have all seen a box office bump, with Captain America: Winter Soldier and Iron Man 3 both improving on their pre-Avengers predecessors. Last year also saw the launch of Guardians of the Galaxy, which became one of the biggest worldwide hits of the year.

Avengers: Age of Ultron reunites the cast of the first, including Robert Downey Jr and Scarlett Johansson, and adds in new characters played by James Spader, Andy Serkis and Elizabeth Olsen.

While the film opens on May 1 in the US, it opens slightly earlier in some other territories, such as the UK where it hits cinemas on April 23.
