The working from home model across parts of the world last year has helped lift revenues at cybersecurity business Avast.

The FTSE 100 software firm which employs around 1700 globally and has a London office in Holborn, has seen high customer demand for its products as people sought to boost security for computers and phones they were using while working remotely.

Avast gained around one million new paying customers during 2020.

Ondrej Vlcek, chief executive of Avast, said: “In a year when more people and businesses turned to technology to keep their lives and their work enabled, Avast has played a vital role in safeguarding our customers’ digital data and privacy.”

Sales at Avast in the year to December 31 improved to $892.1 million (£638 million) from $873.1 million. Pretax profits increased 9% to $436.7 million.

The company added that it expects revenue growth of 6-8% in 2021.

The boss added: “We are confident in our ability to unlock new growth opportunities.”
