Avanti, Northern and CrossCountry trains delayed and cancelled after tree falls on railway line in Cheshire

Avanti, Northern and CrossCountry train services are delayed this morning after a tree fell onto the railway line.

Stormy weather uprooted the tree on Wednesday evening and it has caused damage to the over-head electrical wire near to Adlington, in Cheshire.

Trains are unable to run between Stockport and Stoke-on-Trent, as well as between Macclesfield and Wilmslow, as a result.

Engineers are carrying out repairs, but a number of early morning services between Manchester Piccadilly, London Euston, Stoke-on-Trent and Macclesfield have been cancelled or delayed.
