Previously featuring the likes of Andy Warhol and Guy Bourdin, Nars Holiday Collection now puts the spotlight on American visual artist Man Ray (Emmanuel Radnitzky, 1890-1976).

His monumental works have been reproduced for the packaging of the cool collection of make-up and gift sets.
The images include Les Larmes (Glass Tears) depicting a model's eyes looking upward while shedding glass-bead tears, seen gracing an eyeshadow palette with six colours.
Ray took the photograph after a break-up with his lover and assistant, Lee Miller, and this is reflected in naming the dark blue Heartbreaker and shimmering brown Vengeance.
His departed lover's lips hover in the sky in one of Ray's most famous surrealist paintings, which appears along with a nude in a black-and-white photograph titled A L'Heure De L'Observatoire: Les Amoureux (Observatory Time: The Lovers)
The image has been reinterpreted instead with a dressed lady lying on a sofa underneath the painting for the artwork of Les Amoureux box containing four mini Audacious lipsticks in neutral shades.
A motif across the collection's packaging, the floating lips are also embossed on the make-up, for instance on the limited-edition Overexposed Glow Highlighter.
La Mode Au Congo series includes a picture of another lover, Adrienne Fidelin, who was also Ray's model and muse. Wearing a beaded headpiece, the Guadeloupean beauty is propped against a chessboard, a recurring element of Ray's visual art.
This piece illustrates the lid of Love Game Eyeshadow Palette containing a dozen colours and retailed exclusively at Sephora.
Rays' works chosen for the Nars Holiday Collection were created in the 1930s. His avant-garde audacity at that time relates well to the beauty brand notable for offering bold make-up, such as the grapefruit-pink blush named Fetishized and golden Photogloss Lip Lacquer named Muse.
