The autumn roses at the Jindai Botanical Gardens in Chofu, Tokyo, have entered their peak blooming season and mask-wearing visitors are enjoying their sweet aroma.
Caretakers tend 5,000 rose plants of about 300 varieties, including the pink Chicago Peace, in the 1.6-hectare rose garden.
According to officials of the garden park run by the Tokyo metropolitan government, roses that bloom in autumn keep their flowers for a longer period of time and their colors are more vivid than those that bloom during spring.
The botanical garden park opens at 8 a.m. on weekends -- earlier than usual -- through the end of this month, allowing visitors more time during the morning hours when the roses are their most fragrant.
