
When Isack Hadjar was given the nod to move up from F2 to F1 with Racing Bulls there was a slightly sniffy air around Red Bull’s management, as if he were not Mr Right but Mr You’ll Do, since there was a space to be filled.
Hadjar seemed to confirm that with a silly accident on the formation lap in Australia. But he grew through the year and dispelled those concerns. A podium at Zandvoort was a reward for his speed and tenacity, and convinced the doubters in the corridors of power that he is ready to become Max Verstappen’s team-mate.
