Auto shop accountant charged with stealing over $175K from employer

A woman who worked in payroll is accused of stealing over $175,000 from her employer in northwest suburban Bensenville.

Rungnapa Correia, 48, of Schaumburg, is charged with a felony count of theft of more than $100K, the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office said in a statement.

Correia allegedly wrote unauthorized company checks to herself when she worked as an accountant for Yukikiaze Auto, prosecutors said.

The checks were written out to cash and deposited into her personal account, according to prosecutors. She allegedly stole the money between 2010 and June 2017, when the business closed.

After an audit, the owner of the company discovered the theft and contacted Bensenville police, prosecutors said.

Correia’s bail was set to $25,000, prosecutors said. She is due in court again on July 16.
