PUNE: A bouncer working with a private security agency and his techie friend suffered deep cuts after they were attacked with a knife by an autorickshaw driver and his three aides at Tingrenagar. The assault took place following an altercation over the auto driver’s refusal to ply a short distance in the early hours of Saturday.
The Vishrantwadi police have registered a case of an attempt to murder against the four attackers, who are on the run, following a complaint lodged by victim Amit Anil Gill (25) on Sunday afternoon. “Gill, who is a bouncer, and his friend Sushant Anil More (26) are undergoing treatment in a private hospital for stab wounds to the stomach and back,” said police sub-inspector (PSI) Lahu Satpute, who is investigating the case.
He said, “Gill and More had gone out to attend a programme late on Friday night and were returning home on a motorcycle around 4.15am, when their two-wheeler ran out of fuel a short distance away from the destination. They spotted the auto driver sitting in his vehicle and approached him with a plea to drop them home.”
He added, “However, a quarrel broke out when the auto driver refused to ply the short distance. Soon, he made a call to his aides and three men reached the spot to join the auto driver in abusing and arguing with the victims. The four men then started assaulting the two. One attacker pulled out a knife and stabbed them.”
The attack has been recorded by closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras of a private establishment located nearby. Police are trying to ascertain the identities of the assailants and also the registration number of the autorickshaw. The police suspect that the four men are local residents.
