Autistic Glaswegians invited to attend free coffee clubs launched in city centre

Autistic Glaswegians are being invited to attend four new coffee clubs that have been created at two new venues in the city centre.

The weekly clubs, delivered by National Autistic Society Scotland, provide an opportunity for autistic people to socialise, meet new people and build meaningful friendships.

Now the charity is asking autistic Glaswegians adults, over the age of 26, to get in touch if they would like to join.

It is free to attend, with attendees only needing to pay for their own refreshments.

Nick Ward, Director of National Autistic Society Scotland said: “We know that two thirds of autistic people in Scotland feel socially isolated. Our free coffee clubs meet weekly and offer an opportunity for autistic adults to enjoy conversation, make friends and socialise.

“The clubs are a lifeline for autistic people who face social isolation and are a vital stepping stone towards building self-confidence and social skills – which are so important in helping autistic people feel valued and enabling them to contribute to society."

The coffee clubs take place at Geek Retreat on Union St every Monday from 12pm to 2pm, and FM Bookshop on Bothwell St every Tuesday from 2pm to 4pm, Thursday from 3pm to 5pm, and Saturday from 10am to 12pm.

If you would like to attend one of the free coffee clubs, please contact National Autistic Society Scotland beforehand, by emailing persontoperson@nas.org.uk or calling 0141 221 80 90.
