Queensland rescuers find woman's body, missing fisherman clinging to capsized boat off Brisbane

Police said the woman slipped away from the upturned boat during the night.

Police have recovered a body from Moreton Bay off Brisbane, believed to be a woman who went missing when the boat she was on with her husband capsized late on Saturday.

The woman's 54-year-old husband was rescued just before 10:00am after being spotted by a rescue helicopter crew.

The man was clinging to the bow of his upturned tinnie.

He suffered severe hypothermia and was airlifted to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane.

Police said the woman slipped away from the boat during the night.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.

Acting Senior Sergeant Mitch Gray said the couple had been out fishing when they got into trouble and managed to call family as the boat was sinking.

"At this stage, it looks like the vessel's been capsized by a wave and from there the two people have been thrown into the water," he said.

"The husband has managed to hold onto the hull throughout the night but at some stage during the night, the wife has become tired and fatigued and has become separated from her husband."

Police said conditions had been challenging, with rough surf and steady 20-knot winds.

Today's search had involved 13 vessels and seven aircraft.

Just before 7:00pm on Saturday, police were notified the pair had not returned from a fishing trip they had set out on that day from the Colmslie boat ramp.

A search was launched immediately involving crews from PolAir, Water Police, the Volunteer Marine Rescue and Coast Guard.

The search had focused on the Port of Brisbane, Mud Island and the Redcliffe area.
