Jan. 28--Los Angeles County detectives Wednesday released sketches of two men believed to be involved in a May 2014 double killing in unincorporated Rancho Dominguez.
Childhood friends Jason Pi20, and Omar Williams, 18, were in a light-colored compact car going south in the 17600 block of South Santa Fe Avenue about 4:30 p.m. May 5 when a large dark-colored SUV pulled up and a person inside fired at the two, sheriff's officials said.
Williams died at the scene, and Piater died at a hospital.
The shooting caused the car to hit other vehicles in the street, and as a result, a woman was sent to a hospital with minor injuries.
The sketches officials released came from interviews with witnesses at the scene.
One man is described as a black male, 30 to 35 years old with black hair and brown eyes. The second man is described as a black male between 25 and 30 years old with black hair and brown eyes. Both had goatees at the time.
Williams and Piad known each other since childhood and grew up near each other in Compton.
Williams had recently enrolled in adult school to complete his high school education and had just passed a test to become a janitor.
"It's like a bright light is gone now," said his mother, Jenniffer Jimenez.
Piad a 3-year-old son and was in training for a job at Southern California Edison.
"He was trying to do something positive," said Mike Turner, a pastor who had known Piince childhood.
