Authorities locate crash site of missing tour helicopter in Hawaii

The wreckage of a helicopter that went missing Thursday with seven aboard near the island of Kauai in Hawaii has been located, but the search for survivors is ongoing, authorities said.

The crash site was located in Kokee State Park in Kauai, police said, after rescue workers launched a search Friday morning amid windy, wet conditions.

The chopper was touring Kauai's Na Pali Coast, and the owner of the aircraft reached the Coast Guard Joint Rescue Command Center Honolulu at 6:06 p.m. local time Thursday, less than an hour after its scheduled return, according to officials.

Two minors were among the passengers on the helicopter, according to the Coast Guard.

"First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers are with the families of these passengers," said Kauai Mayor Derek Kawakami in a statement. "Operations continue and we are doing everything we can at this time."

Additional resources were on the way to the crash site, according to officials.
