Oct. 18--The Los Angeles County coroner has identified an alleged intruder shot to death Friday by a L.A. County Sheriff's deputy in La Puente as 25-year-old Johnny Rangel.
Coroner's investigator Brian Kim said investigators did not know where Rangel was from.
The shooting occurred about 1:15 a.m. Friday in the 800 block of Ashcomb Drive in La Puente, according to a Sheriff's Department news release.

When the man identified as Rangel entered the home, a resident left the house and alerted deputies to his presence.
Sheriff's deputies entered the home and "gave verbal commands to the suspect." But when the man grabbed for a deputy's gun, the deputy fatally shot him in the torso, officials said.
No one else was injured in the incident. A knife, which sheriff's officials believe belonged to Rangel, was found at the scene.
As is customary after officer-involved shootings, the L.A. County district attorney, coroner's officials, the sheriff's Homicide Bureau, and the Internal Affairs Bureau have opened investigations.
