Scots will be required to show proof that they have received three doses of the coronavirus vaccine to enter Austria.
Travellers heading to the country from the UK must also show a negative PCR test, which should be taken a maximum of 72 hours before travel.
Anyone that have not yet been 'fully vaccinated' (which includes booster) must self-isolate for 10 days upon their arrival.
The new rules, which were announced by the Austrian government today, will come into force from December 25.
A notice on Austria’s official tourism website reads: “Austria has tightened its entry rules due to the outbreak of the Omicron variant.
“Due to the rapid spread of the Omicron variant, the United Kingdom will be classified as a virus variant region from December 25 in Austria.
“Everyone travelling from the UK needs to be quarantined for 10 days upon arrival.
“Exception: people who are fully vaccinated (two jabs and have received third booster jab) can enter Austria with a negative PCR test (valid 72 hours) without quarantine.”
The new rules are likely to have an impact on Scots that have booked for skiing trips in Austria.
Children under 12 will exempt from the rules on vaccination and will instead have to show a negative PCR test for entry into the country.
Austria was plunged into a three-week lockdown last month amid rising Covid case numbers in the country.
Despite the majority lockdown restrictions ending earlier in December, a number of measures still remain in place.
Scots will be required to show proof of vaccination status when entering hotels, restaurants, leisure centres, gyms, cultural institutions, Christmas markets and hairdressers, among others.
FFP2 masks must also be worn in all public areas in enclosed spaces.
All restaurants, cafes and inns operate with a 11pm curfew every evening apart from New Year’s Eve. Bars and clubs remain closed in Austria.
