A woman's tactical strategy to secure half price potato wedges has gone viral in Australia after she posted a running commentary online.

YouTuber Neon Fiona live-tweeted her plan of action in a series of posts on Wednesday that quickly gained thousands of likes.

She began by writing on Twitter: "If you think I've been stood in this supermarket for like fifteen minutes now doing nothing Bc im convinced the wedges will be reduced soon u are 100 per cent correct."

The vlogger, who has more than 20,000 subscribers, then stood patiently for more than 40 minutes until her prediction came true.

The potato wedges were reduced from $3 to $1.50.

Fiona's final tweet "SUCCESS" alongside a picture of the wedges attracted more than 4,000 likes as her supermarket stake-out went viral.

The internet star had come to believe that the snack was about to be marked down.

"It has 3:15 as the time stamp and it’s now 6:25 and surely they don’t leave things longer than three hours that’s gross," she said.

Fiona added: "I mean it’s not gross enough for me to not eat it but gross enough for it to be reduced in the hopes of selling it to normal people."

The young woman said she "faked two phone calls" to her housemates as she waited for the reduction to be added.

After 30 minutes her suspicions were confirmed and a member of staff appeared in the shop with the reduced sticker maker.

Fiona was quickly hailed a hero online for her efforts.

Retweeting the thread, one man known as Reggie Matthews said: "Pretty inspirational thread here folks."
