HAMBURG (Reuters) - The lowest price offer submitted in the tender from Iraq’s state grains board to buy at least 50,000 tonnes of hard wheat was $283.35 a tonne c&f free out for wheat to be sourced from Australia, European traders said on Monday.
No purchase has yet been made and the offers are still being considered, traders said.
The tender closed on Nov. 26 and offers must remain valid until Nov. 30. Only wheat of U.S., Australian or Canadian origin may be offered.
The lowest offer for Australian wheat was made for 50,000 tonnes and was followed by other offers at $288.00 and $288.35 a tonne c&f free out.
The lowest price offered for U.S. wheat was $294.47 a tonne c&f free out followed by other offers of $296.07 and $299.75.
One offer for Canadian wheat was made at $303.45 a tonne c&f free out.
Six trading houses participated in the tender.
In its last reported wheat purchase in early November, Iraq struck a direct non-tender deal to buy 500,000 tonnes of U.S. wheat from Cargill, ADM and an unidentified firm.
Iraq's cabinet in May authorised the ministry of trade to make direct purchases of wheat and rice to guarantee food security.
