Australia's softball team has lost in the opening event of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, going down 8-1 against host nation Japan in Fukushima.
Australia got off to a great start at the top of the first innings after Taylah Tsitsikronis was hit by a Yukiko Ueno pitch with the bases loaded.
But the Japanese, who took a two-run lead at the bottom of the third, hit home runs in the fourth and fifth innings to extend their advantage to seven at the bottom of the fifth.
The match was ended under a mercy rule, with Japan having led by seven runs at the bottom of the fifth inning.
More to come.
