Australia’s new prime minister, Scott Morrison, has apologised after posting a video online which featured a hip-hop song with lyrics that were “just not OK”.
The 11-second video showed government MPs raising their hands in parliament, accompanied by the hip-hop song “Be Faithful”.
The clip was synched with lyrics from the 1999 hit by US artist Fatman Scoop including “you got a hundred dollar bill, get your hands up! You got a 50 dollar bill, get your hands up!”
Mr Morrison tweeted the video with a caption praising his colleagues for being “on fire today”.
The full song has several explicit lyrics and includes the line “to all my n****s that they hit it from the back. Who want to have sex with no strings attached.”
The video Mr Morrison tweeted did not include explicit lyrics but he later deleted the tweet after it prompted a barrage of ridicule online.
“Did someone pitch this? Were there meetings?” Tim Watts, an Australian MP, tweeted.
Mr Morrison later posted an apology on Twitter, which said that he asked his team to remove the video.
Mr Morrison has only been in office for three weeks. He replaced former Australian leader Malcolm Turnbull who was ousted at the end of August, prompting a brutal leadership battle.
