Australian men arrested over 101kg haul of Mexican ice

Four men have been arrested after 101 kilograms of methamphetamine, or ice, destined for Australia, was uncovered during an international investigation into a drug importation syndicate in Mexico.

NSW Police said three men were arrested in Sydney and another in Adelaide on Thursday following extensive joint-agency investigations.

The arrests were made as part of the NSW Police Force's Strike Force Rowena, which was established by detectives from the Organised Crime Squad in March to investigate the importation of ice and cocaine to Sydney.

Investigators have been working with the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission and the US Drug Enforcement Administration as part of the operation.

As a result of their joint inquiries, and with the assistance of the Mexican Federal Police, officers intercepted 101kg of methamphetamine in Mexico in September.

Police said the drugs have an estimated potential street value of more than $50 million, and will allege in court that the drugs were destined for Australia.

The men have been taken to local police stations, and charged with various offences.

Police are expected to give more information on the arrests at a press conference this morning.
