Australian international Brandon O’Neill is the latest name to be linked with a move to Championship club Nottingham Forest.
O’Neill, a defensive midfielder, was a regular for Sydney FC last term, playing 39 times as the club secured a second-placed finish in the A-League.
He then played a key role as Sydney beat his former club Perth in the finals to secure end of season silverware.
During the 2018/19 campaign the 25-year-old scored twice, racking up eight assists from his role in front of the defence.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Forest are not the only club tracking the £300,000-rated man, with Bristol City, Blackburn and ex-Reds boss Mark Warburton’s QPR all said to be keeping tabs on his situation, so too, League One pair Ipswich Town and Portsmouth.
Such is Forest’s reported interest in O’Neill, his namesake and City Ground chief Martin, is said to have sent club scouts to watch the ex-Perth Glory star open the scoring against Melbourne in April, rifling in a shot just six minutes in to a 2-1 victory.
The Herald say sources close to the Sky Blues suggest O’Neill would be allowed to move overseas if a suitable offer was forthcoming, with any possible move being made smoother owing to the fact the Aussie international holds a UK passport.
Martin O’Neill’s desire to strengthen his midfield ranks this summer is clear, with the Ulsterman keen on re-signing Jack Colback from Newcastle, with reports in Greece suggesting Claudio Yacob could be allowed to move to Olympiacos, while the Reds have also been linked with a move for Southampton’s Harrison Reed.
