Australian High Commissioner to the UK George Brandis was reportedly involved in the collision
(Picture: Getty Images)An investigation is underway after a vehicle transporting Australian High Commissioner to the UK George Brandis was involved in a crash at the COP26 summit in Glasgow, according to reports.
The incident is said to have occurred as a diplomatic car transporting Mr Brandis attempted to catch up with Australian prime minister Scott Morrison’s motorcade at the climate conference.
Two Metropolitan Police cars then took defensive measures to stop an apparent security threat, Sky News Australia reported.
Both police vehicles applied brakes but then collided into one another, according to 7News.
No one was injured in the crash, but both vehicles are said to have been “significantly damaged”.
The Met has now completed a report on the incident as it involved officers from the force, according to Sky News Austrlia.
The incident took place on the last day of the conference on November 12, the broadcaster reported.
The Met Police referred reporters to Police Scotland, which initially said it did not have details of the incident.
Later on Tuesday, a spokesman for the Scottish force said: “We don’t comment on security or protection matters.”
George Brandis became Australia’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom in May 2018, replacing Alexander Downer in the role.
He previously served as a Senator for Queensland between 2000 and 2018, representing Australia’s centre-right Liberal Party.
