Tommy Emmanuel, the world-famous Australian guitarist, songwriter and occasional singer, returns to Thailand for "Tommy Emmanuel Live 2019 Bangkok", tomorrow at Ultra Arena Hall, ShowDC. Witness the maestro's celebrated fingerstyle technique and use of percussive effects on the guitar.
Emmanuel is four-time winner of Australia's Best Guitarist award and two-time ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association) award winner. Although a rock guitarist at heart, over his decades-long career he has pushed genre boundaries by adding jazz-style improvisation into a mix that also includes blues, country, classical and Spanish music. At the age of six, Emmanuel was already a professional musician, touring Australia with his family band Goldrush. Fast-forward to the age of 30, and he was rocking out stadiums across Europe as the lead guitarist for Dragon, supporting such legendary acts as Tina Turner.
Today, Emmanuel plays hundreds of sold-out shows every year all across the world, from Nashville to Sydney and everywhere in between. Influenced by the Merle Travis/Chet Atkins fingerstyle of guitar picking, Emmanuel developed a style of solo guitar playing that encompasses the range of a whole band -- covering drums, bass, rhythm and lead guitar and a vocal melody simultaneously.
Emmanuel has never had formal music training and does not read music. His musical ability is a natural one, and it has earned him a devoted following of fans. His musical talents have earned him the opportunity to work alongside artists such as Chet Atkins, Air Supply, Sir George Martin, John Denver, Eric Clapton and Doc Watson to name a few.
To date, Emmanuel has recorded 26 albums as band leader, the most recent being this year's Heart Songs with John Knowles.
