Cyclist Amanda Reid has won Australia's seventh gold medal of the Tokyo Paralympics, with victory in the women's C1-3 500 metres time trial.

Teammate Alistair Donohoe also reached the podium after claiming silver in the men's C5 4,000m individual pursuit.

Reid, the reigning world champion, broke her world record for the C2 classification, setting a new time of 38.487 seconds.

Given her event involves competitors from three classifications, Reid's time was factored to give her a final time of 35.581.

The only rider who could beat her was the 2016 Rio Paralympic champion, Alyda Norbruis.

But the Dutch cyclist finished in a real time of 39.002, factored to a final time of 36.057, leaving Reid with the gold medal.

It is Australia's third gold medal in track cycling at the Tokyo Games, following Paige Greco and Emily Petricola's respective victories on day one.

Donohoe took silver behind France's Dorian Foulon, who set a world record of 4:18.274 in the qualifying round.

Foulon dominated the final, winning in a time of 4:20.757 to Donohoe's 4:24.095.

Donohoe also won silver in the event at the Rio Paralympics and was the 2019 world champion.
