This mother and joey are among dozens of kangaroos being nursed back to health by a couple in an area described as Australia's bushfire “ground zero”.

Julie Willis and Gary Wilson have opened their home to about 60 and other animals whose habitat has been destroyed by the fires raging near their home in the small community of Wytaliba, New South Wales.

Two people died during the fires that hit the community, destroying homes and buildings including the local primary school.

Residents who have returned are living in tents and temporary accommodation.
