Rising Australian cycling star Caleb Ewan has continued his dream start to the year by winning stage two of the Herald Sun Tour.

The 21-year-old sprinter beat American Tanner Putt to take out the windswept 144.2km stage from Yarra Glen to Moe.

Britain’s Peter Kennaugh finished third to ensure he retained the overall lead.

Tour de France champion Chris Froome was fourth, while Australian champion Jack Bobridge finished fifth.

Stage three of the tour takes places on Saturday, from Traralgon to Inverloch. The 146km section is the longest of the five-day tour.
