Australian Accountant Breaks World Record for Push-Ups in Hour With Ridiculous Total

A 33-year-old accountant from Australia etched his name into the Guinness World Records book by completing the most push-ups in one hour.

Lucas Helmke, who did the push-ups in his local gym in Brisbane, finished with 3,206 in just one hour, which comes out to an average of around 53 push-ups per minute.

He broke the previous record by 24 push-ups, which was set just last April by another Australian man. This is the fourth time the record has been broken in the last three years.

Guinness World Records had various rules for Helmke as he attempted the new total: He had to keep his body “straight throughout, meaning there can be no bending at the knees or waist. The body must be lowered until at least a 90-degree angle is attained at the elbow, then raised until the arms are straight.” Out of the over 3,000 push-ups he completed in an hour, just 34 weren’t counted due to improper structure.

Helmke doesn’t want to stop here, though.

“This will be the first record I wish to set of a number of other push up records,” Lucas said. “Then onto other physical records.”
