Australia to drop pre-travel Covid tests for vaccinated travellers next month

Australia holidays are about to get even easier for Brits, as the country is looking to relax more of its entry requirements.

Currently, fully vaccinated travellers can visit Australia but they still need a pre-travel Covid test such as a PCR test taken within 72 hours of scheduled departure, or a rapid antigen test taken within 24 hours (this needs to be done under medical supervision).

However, the Covid test requirements are set to be dropped for double jabbed travellers from next month, the Australian government has announced.

The country's Health Minister Greg Hunt announced this week that Covid testing rules will be dropped from April 17.

You'll still need to be able to show proof of full Covid vaccination to enter the destination, and face masks will continue to be required on all international flights to and from Australia.

There's more good news for travellers too, as restrictions on cruise holidays are also set to lift in April, meaning that ships will once again be able to sail to the popular holiday spot.

According to the Mr Hunt: "The requirements for maritime arrivals will also be aligned with those on airlines, as part of the safety protocols for the resumption of cruising."

Australia first reopened to vaccinated holidaymakers in February nearly two years after it first closed its borders due to the coronavirus pandemic.

This included travellers from the UK, meaning that Brits can once again go and tick some of Australia's ridiculously beautiful places off the bucket list.

Travellers and visa holders who are not double jabbed will still be required to have an essential reason or approved exemption, and "will be subject to state and territory quarantine requirements".

It means that Australia will join a line-up of countries vaccinated Brits can visit without tests, alongside hotspots such as France, Portugal, Greece, Canada and other holiday hotspots.

Australia isn't the only long-haul destination to be welcoming holidaymakers back.

New Zealand his set to welcome back vaccinated UK travellers from 11.59pm on May 1 with no quarantine, although you will need to self-test on arrival.

Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated travellers who are not New Zealand citizens will not be able to enter the country, unless they meet the criteria for one of the handful of exemptions.
