- Australia has outlawed the neo-Nazi network, previously known as the National Socialist Network and also referred to as White Australia, making it the second organisation banned under new legislation criminalising hate groups.
- The legislation was enacted following an antisemitic attack on a Hanukkah celebration in Sydney's Bondi Beach last December, which resulted in 15 deaths, and aims to curtail antisemitic hatred.
- Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke confirmed the ban, effective Friday, stating it makes it illegal to support, fund, train, recruit, join, or direct the group, even if it reforms under a new name, with penalties up to 15 years in prison.
- The Islamist group Hibzt ut-Tahrir was the first organisation banned in March under this new law, which allows for the prohibition of hate groups that do not meet Australia's definition of a terrorist organisation.
- The ban comes amidst broader measures to combat antisemitism, including a nationwide ban on Nazi salutes and symbols enacted earlier in 2024, and despite the group's earlier announcement of its intention to disband.
