Australia government's spending rises in second quarter

SYDNEY (Reuters) - Australian government spending for consumption rose 1.2 percent in the second quarter to an inflation-adjusted A$80.08 billion ($63.71 billion), the Australian Bureau of Statistics reported on Tuesday.

Investment spending by the government and public enterprises jumped 11.9 percent to A$23.58 billion, implying total spending likely made some contribution to economic growth.

The data will feed into the gross domestic product (GDP) report for the June quarter due on Wednesday.
