Australia freezes $45m Russian account

Marise Payne confirms Australia froze a $45 million bank account of a sanctioned Russian entity. (AAP)

Australian authorities have frozen a $45 million bank account belonging to a sanctioned Russian entity.

Foreign Minister Marise Payne said it was a good example of the impact of sanctions on Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.

"We know that we can have an effect and we'll continue to do that," Senator Payne said on Friday.

The minister declined to go into further detail.

She said the comprehensive sanctions now covered more than 300 members of the "political facilitators of President Putin's actions".
