Australia flirts with web censorship

A bill introduced this week by Australia's parliament would give federal police the power to control which websites can and cannot be viewed by surfers. A communications legislation amendment bill would empower police to alter the "blacklist" of sites that are already prohibited by the authorities, usually because of pornographic content. Now politicians want to censor sites with material that "encourages, incites or induces" criminal and/or terrorist activity.
