Australia defeats Pakistan in first of five ODIs

Captain Aaron Finch smashed a century to lead Australia to a thumping eight-wicket win over Pakistan in the first one-day international on Friday.

Finch made 116 off 135 balls while Shaun Marsh hit an unbeaten 91 as the world champions totalled 281-2 in 49 overs.

Earlier, left-hander Haris Sohail struck his maiden ODI hundred. His undefeated 101 off 115 balls guided Pakistan to 280-5 after captain Shoaib Malik had won the toss and elected to bat.

The second match will be played at the same venue on Sunday.
