SYDNEY (Reuters) - Australia's prime minister had a telephone call with U.S. President Donald Trump, a spokesperson was quoted saying on Tuesday, after media reports that Trump sought help investigating the origins of the Mueller investigation.

"The Australian government has always been ready to assist and cooperate with efforts that help shed further light on the matters under investigation," the Australian Broadcasting Corp. quoted an unnamed federal government spokesperson as saying.

"The PM confirmed this readiness once again in conversation with the president," the spokesperson added, according to the ABC. The spokesperson did not say when the call took place.

The Australian prime minister's office was not immediately available for comment.
