Australia’s utter dominance of the Twenty20 series against West Indies was confirmed with another comfortable victory in the Caribbean to seal a 3-0 series whitewash and ensure Meg Lanning’s side head back for the Australian summer with their winning streak intact.
The tourists never looked like slipping up at Bridgetown’s Kensington Oval after Jess Jonassen starred with the ball, taking four wickets for seven runs off her four overs as the West Indies, who won the toss and elected to bat first, were bowled out for just 81.
Georgia Wareham was almost as impressive with figures of 3-14 before openers Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney set about the run chase. Healy could not add a fifth half century to her tally this tour and fell for 38, but not before she and Mooney had set Australia on their way, reaching 40-0 from the first three overs.
Ellyse Perry was called into action to see her side home after Healy’s dismissal, and the target was reached with consummate ease after just 7.3 overs.
“It was always going to be a test tonight, it’s been a long trip away combined with the Ashes,” coach Matthew Mott said after the match. “I was really pleased with the effort particularly in the field to bowl them out for that and then there was a clinical batting chase.
“It’s been a long trip away combined with the Ashes [in England] and we like to try and finish off in style and close the book on things. That was the most pleasing thing about today, we turned up with same energy that we had for the ODIs at the start to I can’t ask for much more than that.”
Having already secured the one-day international series 3-0, Australia’s tour of the West Indies has proved hugely successful and they now return to Australia for the start of the home summer, which begins with another three-match T20 series against Sri Lanka.
