A Chicago man has been charged in the fatal shooting of a 25-year-old earlier this month in Austin on the West Side.
Alex Thomas, 20, faces first-degree murder charges for the Nov. 8 killing of Lavell Mathis, Chicago police announced Tuesday.
Mathis was walking through a vacant lot about 1:10 a.m. in the 4900 block of West Madison Street when Thomas allegedly approached on foot and fired shots, police said.
Mathis suffered gunshot wounds to the abdomen and armpit and was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
Thomas is scheduled to appear in central bond court Wednesday.
