Austin Osayande denies raping woman and sexually attacking another in Leeds

A man has denied raping a woman in Leeds city centre more than six years ago.

Austin Osayande, 40, is accused of raping a woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, in Mark Lane on August 14, 2015.

He is also accused of another sex attack on a different woman in Leeds on September 10 this year.

Osayande appeared at Leeds Crown Court today (Friday) via video link from Armley Prison where he is being held on remand.

Dressed in a prison-issue grey tracksuit, he sat motionless during the brief hearing and spoke only to confirm his name, age and to deny the charges.

Osayande faces a charge of rape for the attack on August 14, 2015, and a charge of assault by penetration for the attack on September 10, 2021.

When the charges were put before him by Judge Guy Kearl QC, Recorder of Leeds, the defendant replied: “Not guilty”

Osayande, of Sissons Road, Leeds, was remanded ahead of his next appearance at the same court.

A trial date has been set for March 21, 2022.
