Austin Ekeler weighs in on Jonathan Taylor’s status with Colts

Jonathan Taylor is a game-changer for the Colts.

After rushing for 861 yards in 11 games last season, and 1,811 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2021, the 24-year-old running back returned to the team on Monday. Taylor had been rehabbing an injured ankle and has been feuding with Jim Irsay over his contract.

Austin Ekeler of the Chargers, a fellow star running back, recently joined “Sports Seriously” host Mackenzie Salmon and weighed in on the Taylor-Irsay saga.

Specifically, he addressed Irsay’s comments, which included this one to The Athletic:

“If I die tonight and Jonathan Taylor is out of the league, no one’s gonna miss us. The league goes on. We know that. The National Football League rolls on.”

Ekeler, who has organized a group of the league’s top running backs to discuss the diminished market value of the running back position, told Salmon: “If you are putting out things in the media, it’s going to receive backlash regardless of what you say; and if you put out things in a stance of power, and its against people that are frustrated right now, yeah, you are going to make us feel some type of way. So I’ll keep it at that.”
